Jeep Safari on Milos: Sunset or Full Day, and Who It Suits
Updated October 22, 2026 · 5 min read
The short answer. For most visitors the four-hour sunset jeep safari is the better choice: €115 per person, rated 4.8 from 29 reviews, with Sarakiniko, the fishing village of Mandrakia, a picnic and a sunset from a hilltop monastery. The full-day jeep safari with a barbecue lunch costs €185, runs 6 to 6.5 hours and is the one that includes the catacombs. It has fewer reviews (4.7 from 13), so there is less evidence about it.
Neither is a boat trip. They are a way to see the land side of Milos in a small group without driving yourself, and they are worth considering on a day when the north wind keeps the boats in port.
The two safaris compared
| Trip | Duration | From | Rating · reviews | Main stops |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunset jeep safari | 4 hours | €115 | 4.8 · 29 | Mandrakia, Sarakiniko, Theorichio, Panagia Tourliani |
| Full-day jeep safari with BBQ | 6–6.5 hours | €185 | 4.7 · 13 | Phylakopi, Papafragas, Sarakiniko, Mandrakia, Firopotamos, Tripiti, catacombs, Klima |
Both use Jeep Wranglers with a driver who also guides, in English, and both limit each jeep to four guests. Fuel and full insurance cover are listed as included.
The sunset safari
The printed schedule starts at 5:00 p.m. in Pollonia or Adamas. If you start from Adamas, the booking page asks you to check in at the port at 4:45 p.m., where a crew member meets you at Athena Travel Services. The stops run through Mandrakia (about 20 minutes), Sarakiniko (about 40 minutes), a stretch of off-road driving around the old mining area of Theorichio, and finally the monastery of Panagia Tourliani above Plaka, where the picnic and the sunset happen. The listing gives about 45 minutes there. The picnic is a cheese and fruit platter with water, soft drinks, wine and beer, and the listing also says alcohol is not allowed inside the vehicle, so the drinks are for the stop.
Check the clock for your month. The printed times, with the monastery at 8:00 p.m. and the return at 9:00 p.m., fit a summer evening. The sun sets much earlier in autumn: we calculated about 7:30 p.m. in mid-September and 6:45 p.m. in mid-October. The listing says the itinerary may change with the weather, so ask the operator what the start time is on your date and whether the order of stops changes.
The full-day safari
The day starts at about 9:30 a.m. from Pollonia or Adamas. The sequence is the prehistoric site of Phylakopi, Papafragas, Sarakiniko, Mandrakia, Firopotamos, a barbecue lunch with wine, soft drinks and water, the village of Tripiti, the catacombs and Klima. The catacomb entrance ticket is listed as included.
That stop depends on opening hours. The catacombs are a state site, and in our guide to Milos on land we list Tuesday as the closing day. Ask the operator what happens on a day the site is closed before you pick a Tuesday.
Who cannot join
Read the exclusions on the booking page. The sunset safari lists wheelchair users. The full-day safari lists people with back problems, wheelchair users, people with pre-existing medical conditions, babies under 1 year and people over 95. For both, the booking page says baby strollers and baby carriages are not allowed. If you travel with a small child, our guide to Milos with children has the wider picture.
Jeep safari or hire car?
A safari is a good fit if you do not want to drive on unfamiliar roads, want a guide to explain the sites, or would like wine at the picnic. A hire car gives you the freedom to stay at a beach for as long as you like. If you are weighing it up, you can compare car hire for Milos. The safari’s strength is the hilltop sunset stop, with a guide who knows the tracks.
There are also private options. GetYourGuide also lists a private jeep tour for up to four people at €160 and a west Milos jeep trip with a sunset picnic at €150 per person, both with only a handful of reviews, so treat them as unproven.
Compared with a boat trip
A safari does not reach Kleftiko, the sea caves or the swimming stops that make the boat trips worth the money. If a boat is what you came for, see sailing boat or catamaran trips to Kleftiko or the sunset boat trips from Adamas. For more land-based ideas, see things to do in Milos.
Our pick for most travellers: the sunset safari, booked for a day when you have no boat trip. Check dates and prices for the sunset jeep safari.
