Milos Car Hire: What Do Excess, Deposit and Desk Extras Mean?

The answer first: compare the total payable amount and the rental conditions, not only the daily headline price. Before booking a car on Milos, identify the damage excess, the security deposit and the card required for it, what CDW excludes, the fuel policy, and every extra you need. There is no honest island-wide figure for the deposit or young-driver fee: each supplier sets its own terms, and they can differ by vehicle category.

Excess and deposit are not the same thing

The excess is the amount for which the renter may remain responsible under the damage waiver when covered damage occurs. The security deposit is money blocked or taken by the rental company as security for possible charges such as damage, fuel or fines. One is a liability limit under stated circumstances; the other is the supplier’s security while it holds the car.

A lower excess does not necessarily mean no deposit, and a deposit is not automatically the most you could ever owe. Read which parts of the car and which events are excluded. Tyres, glass, underside damage, lost keys, incorrect fuel and use on prohibited roads are the sort of headings that deserve close attention, but the actual contract decides.

The main driver may need a card in the same name with enough available funds. Some suppliers accept only particular card types. Do not assume that the card used online will satisfy the desk requirement; the accepted method appears in the individual rental conditions.

CDW and Full Coverage

CDW is the collision damage waiver supplied as part of, or alongside, the rental contract. It normally reduces liability subject to an excess and exclusions; it is not a promise that every kind of damage costs nothing.

Discover Cars’ Full Coverage is separate. Under its terms, it may reimburse eligible charges after the rental when the required documents are supplied. It does not replace CDW, alter the rental company’s contract or generally remove the requirement to leave a security deposit. That distinction matters at the desk: reimbursement later and no money blocked now are different products.

If the rental agent offers another product, ask what changes in writing: the excess, the deposit, the exclusions, or only the route for making a claim. Decline or accept it based on that answer, not on the label “full”.

Where the final bill grows

Useful extras are not automatically included. An additional driver, child seat, late collection, hotel delivery, one-way return or driver surcharge may alter the amount due. The booking page should separate what is paid now from what is payable at collection. Save the voucher and compare it with the desk agreement before signing.

Fuel deserves its own line. “Same to same” means returning the car with the level received; another supplier may use a different policy. Record the gauge at collection and keep the refuelling receipt. For an island trip, paying for fuel you cannot use can outweigh a small difference in the rental rate.

Road permission is especially important on Milos. Parts of the west are reached on rough, unpaved roads. A vehicle that can physically travel there is not necessarily permitted there under its contract, and choosing an ATV does not settle that question. Ask the supplier to identify the allowed area before setting out.

A five-minute check before payment

Open the conditions for the exact car category and confirm the main-driver documents, card, deposit, excess, fuel rule, road restrictions and selected extras. At collection, photograph every side, the wheels, glass, fuel gauge and mileage, and have existing marks entered on the inspection sheet.

The best-value offer is the one whose complete terms you can meet without an unwanted desk purchase. Compare the conditions of Milos hire cars before choosing.
